Waiting to Know You

Waiting to Know You Review

Waiting to Know You

Waiting to Know You is a twisting tale of unconventional relationships. Brothers Dan and Lunt, abandoned as children and adopted into separate families, have never known their biological sister Virginia, who has been shunned by her parents because of her morbid obesity. Desperate for acceptance, Virginia seeks out her brothers, although she fears that revealing a shared family connection will end in rejection. Meanwhile, Dan's life is already in turmoil when a former girlfriend informs him of the death of the teenage daughter he has never met. As Dan journeys across the United States trying to connect with lost family members, he has no idea that his sister is currently living as his neighbor. Thanks to a generous divorce settlement, Lunt can afford a life of adventure and self-indulgence. On one wild road trip, he ends up rescuing two wives from a polygamist community. While this may have begun as just another crazy stunt, it sets him on course to meet a woman that will change everything he has believed about himself. Amid the swirling chaos of her brothers' lives, Virginia's quest for acceptance leads her to religion, drugs, and ultimately prostitution to find the basic human interaction she yearns for. Both humorous and heartbreaking, Waiting to Know You by Karisha Kal'ee'ay is a beautifully written, strikingly accomplished debut novel.
